Friends Union pip Railway Police

KHADKI: Friends Union Club won an exciting encounter beating Railway Police 2-1 in the Rosary Education Group Nine-a-Side Hockey Tournament played at Ammunition Factory Ground on Thursday.

The day’s goal machine, Ibrahim Sheikh scored twice in the win, blitzing Railway Police defense with his pace and power.

The Friends Union’s win was built around some clever moves of their forwards who created chasms in the opponent’s defense despite their inconsistent performance in the tournament so far.

Friends Union dominated possession in the early part of the game, penetrating Railway Police’s circle consistently, but could not break their crowded defense. However, Ibrahim broke the deadlock 18 minutes into the first half when he ran in hard, dodged a couple of defenders, before scoring a goal.

Five minutes into the second half, Ibrahim blew the game apart with a second goal that silenced Railway Police supporters and gave Friends Union 2-0 lead when left-winger Kunal Jagdale fired into the circle and Ibrahim deflected the ball into the goal.

A consolation goal scored by Santosh Patil of a penalty corner in the 38th minute did not dampen Friends Union celebrations as they ended the game with 2-1 victory.

In yet another exhilarating match, Metro XI dug their way in to vanquish Super XI 2-1. Agile Sanjay Pollaiah struck for Metro in the opening minute of the game. Manish Yadav notched second goal up in 27th minute.

Super XI were bit unlucky to have missed some chances early on. They failed to raise the level of their game when it mattered the most and clearly, they were a bit unorganized side who simply did not have ammunition to fire when it mattered the most.

Next match between Hockey Lovers and Indian Sports ended in 1-1 draw.

While Pranay Jasun scored in 13th minute for Hockey Lovers, Kunal Premalu scored for Indian Sports in 22nd.
